We’re still checking out our video archive of hands on clips taken in Barcelona at MWC 2012 and it’s quite a rich collection of videos, apparently. We’ve also found a detailed preview of the Nokia Lumia 900, the 4.3 inch Windows Phone smartphone that everyone was talking about at CES 2012. That’s where the handset got an award for “best smartphone”, courtesy of the folks at CNET. I have to give it to the guy at the Nokia booth, he’s dressed all hip and has a good attitude… nice!



Back to the phone, this model comes with the same design as the N9 and the Lumia 800, but with a bigger diagonal, plus a front camera and an extra camera button (compared to the N9, since the Lumia 800 has one). The case is all polycarbonate, we have a microSIM slot available and the guy at the Nokia booth really went through all the features of this device and the OS on it, as shown in the video below. However, you shouldn’t expect any difference from other Windows Phone units, since there aren’t. And now here’s the specs list for the device:

Nokia Lumia 900 was rumored to come to Europe with an improved camera, a 12 megapixel unit, but in the end it seems the resolution will be kept. I can’t say I’m sad about that, since the cameras on the Lumia handsets have excellent bitrate when filming, for example. The hands on and gallery below should convince you to buy this model, since it’s the best Windows Phone unit money can get and with Nokia logo on. Tempted by one?

If you’re into luxury phones, then you’ll love the Mobiado Grand Touch Aston Martin, a handset born through the cooperation of Mobiado and Aston Martin. We’re dealing with a precious handset here, that features the car maker’s logo on the back of the case and basically it’s a recrafted Samsung Nexus S, with the same specs.



We get here a body that’s “precision CNC machined” using solid aircraft aluminum or solid brass with rose/yellow gold. Ebony wood or mother of pearl is inserted below the metallic surface and other materials used here include sapphire crystal and stainless steel. Mobiado Grand Touch Aston Martin is available unlocked, with support for quad band GSM connectivity and triband HSDPA. There’s also a 4 inch WVGA display on board, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, a 5MP camera, a VGA front cam and a 1GHz single core processor.

As far as memory goes, you get 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Android Gingerbread is the OS of choice and it certainly would have been nice to have this model with Android 4.0 on board. Prices were not disclosed, but I suppose they’re fit for the generous pocket of an Aston Martin owner, right?

Verizon was responsible for a leak last month that included a device in its roadmap called the LG Cayman. The device was supposed to debut on March 29th and today we get an extra leak, courtesy of Pocketnow, that reveals the handset’s new name, LG Lucid and some of its features. We’re dealing with a budget Android smarpthone, that’s pictured below.



This device packs a 4 inch 800 x 480 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture and a front facing camera for videocalls. No price point has been revealed yet, but I expect an amount close to 0 here, of course on contract. 4G LTE connectivity could be the selling point of this budget smartphone. I wonder what price this handset will sport without contract, since I have a feeling that that the “budget” price won’t be that affordable any more.

For comparison sake, the LG Spectrum with a 720p display and dual core 1.5 GHz processor costs 9 right now. Are you ready to get a 2 year commitment to a carrier for what looks like a midrange phone? I’d rather do it for a high end handset, if you ask me…

Satellite operator Thuraya just announced the launch of a dual mode handset, that works on both GSM networks and on satellite. Thuraya is a very popular brand in conflict zones, especially among journalists and officials, apparently. Thuraya is a very big name and a leader in the mobile satellite industry. Meet the XT Dual handset:



This device is an extension to the Thuraya XT phone, that was considered to the world’s toughest satellite phone. Thus, this model is also pretty resilient, being protected against splash water, dust and impact. It also has a IP64/IK03 rating attached to it, so it’s a rugged handheld device, that’s supposed to endure tough conditions. Satellite calls can still be received when the antenna is stowed, thanks to t e High Penetration Alerting function.

The Thuraya XT-Dual also comes with a built in web browser and can be connected to a laptop or PC for Internet access and also synced with the computer. Thuraya is the only satellite operator with roaming capabilities for GSM Consumers, so you can choose to use a Thuraya SIM card or simply access their network by inserting your GSM SIM card of choice. Sadly, I have no info on this price for this gadget, but I guess it’s pretty big…

Yesterday was all about the New iPad and its features, but Apple also announced something else: 1080p content in iTunes and… iOS 5.1, available for download right now. The software package is 189MB in size and it was only mentioned by Tim Cook as a way to implement Siri in Japanese on compatible devices.



We also get quite a bunch of new stuff, like battery performance fixes for the iPhone 4S, that everyone was expecting. Also, there’s the possibility to delete photos from the Photo Stream, especially hidden ones. iOS 5.1 also changes the camera shortcut, so that it’s always available on the Lock Screen and doesn’t need two hits of the Home button to trigger it. Genius Mixes now works with iTunes Match and another important change is the updated AT&T network indicator.

Know that camera face detection highlights all detected faces now, there’s a redesigned camera app for the iPad, audio for TV shows has been optimized to be louder and cleared on the iPad and a bug that made audio drop during calls was fixed. Happy with your update?
